CAMEO: A novel context-aware middleware for opportunistic mobile social networks

چکیده
Mobile systems are characterized by several dynamic components like users’ mobility, devices’ interoperability and interactions among users and their devices. In this scenario context-awareness and the emerging concept of social-awareness become a fundamental requirement to develop optimized systems and applications. In this paper we focus on a novel category of pervasive and mobile systems designed to implement new services and applications that improve users’ social interactions through the use of mobile devices. Specifically, we present CAMEO, a light-weight context-aware middleware platform designed to support the development of real-time Mobile Social Networks (MSN). MSN extend the paradigm of Online Social Networks with additional interaction opportunities generated by users’ mobility and opportunistic wireless communications. MSN are aimed at creating new and on-demand virtual social networks among mobile users which share interests, habits and needs by providing owngenerated contents and without requiring a stable Internet connection. CAMEO provides to MSN applications a set of optimized services for the collection and elaboration of multidimensional context information in addition to efficient opportunistic communication protocols. A prototype of CAMEO has been implemented on Android platform.

Context- and social-aware middleware for opportunistic networks
Opportunistic networks are multi-hop ad hoc networks in which nodes opportunistically exploit any pair-wise contact to share and forward content, without requiring any pre-existing Internet infrastructure. Opportunistic networks tolerate partitions, long disconnections, and topology instability in general. In this challenging environment, leveraging users’ mobility represents the most effective...
متن کاملExploiting users' social relations to forward data in opportunistic networks: The HiBOp solution
Opportunistic networks, in which nodes opportunistically exploit any pair-wise contact to identify next hops towards the destination, are one of the most interesting technologies to support the pervasive networking vision. Opportunistic networks allow content sharing between mobile users without requiring any pre-existing Internet infrastructure, and tolerate partitions, long disconnections, an...
متن کاملLocation-Aware Routing for Service-Oriented Opportunistic Computing
Smartphones, tablets, netbooks and laptops are intensively used every day by a large part of the population. These devices—which are equipped with Wi-Fi interfaces—can form disconnected mobile ad hoc networks (DMANETs) dynamically. These networks may allow service providers, such as local authorities, to deliver new kinds of services in a wide area (e.g., a city) without resorting to the infras...
متن کاملOpportunistic Overlays: Efficient Content Delivery in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Current content-based publish/subscribe systems assume network environments with stable nodes and network topologies. For mobile environments, one resulting problem is a mismatch between static broker topologies and dynamic underlying network topologies. This mismatch will result in inefficiencies in event delivery, especially in mobile ad hoc networks where nodes frequently change their locati...
متن کاملSystem Design for Opportunistic Networks
The proliferation of mobile devices has significantly changed the way users consume information. As a result, mobile data traffic has been increasing exponentially since 2009. According to current predictions, more than 24 exabytes of mobile traffic will be traversing operators’ networks by 2019, with 72% of this traffic being generated by multimedia. This shift in user behavior requires a thor...
